Junior Construction Estimator

Our client, a dynamic and reputable construction management firm specializing in new build projects, seeks a Junior Construction Estimator to join their team. Position Overview:

As a Junior Construction Estimator, you will play a vital role in the pre-construction phase, supporting the estimation of project costs and bid preparation. Working closely with senior estimators and project managers, you’ll analyze project specifications, conduct material and labor takeoffs, and compile accurate estimates. This role is ideal for entry-level candidates passionate about construction and eager to develop their skills in estimating and project management.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in preparing cost estimates for construction projects, including materials, labor, and equipment.
  • Review project specifications, drawings, and other documentation to understand project requirements.
  • Conduct material and labor takeoffs to determine quantities needed for each project component.
  • Research material and subcontractor pricing to obtain competitive quotes and pricing information.
  • Collaborate with senior estimators to analyze project costs and develop accurate estimates.
  • Prepare bid documents, including scope of work, cost breakdowns, and proposal letters.
  • Participate in bid review meetings and contribute to bid strategy and pricing discussions.
  • Maintain organized records of project estimates, bid documents, and related correspondence.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining estimating databases and software tools.
  • Support project managers during the transition from estimating to project execution phase.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field.
  • Previous internship or co-op experience in construction estimating or a related field preferred.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills, with the ability to perform detailed takeoffs and calculations.
  • Knowledge of construction materials, methods, and industry practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, Procore, PlanSwift).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Motivated self-starter with a willingness to learn and grow in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
